The newly re-designed second is as beautiful as it is difficult. A line of tall pines was removed from the right side and three bunkers placed on the left. The newly constructed tree is moved back and to the right 40-60 yards from the original teeing ground creating more of a dogleg. The green is very difficult. A false front and a crown on the right side make the approach very difficult to get close to the hole.

The ultimate risk-reward hole, this short par 5 allows long hitters who find the left side of the fairway a shot at the green in two. There is no bailing here, so beware, a lake protects the left side and a creek guards the front. Second shots pushed into the stand of trees on the right could wind up almost anywhere. For those choosing the three-shot route, a simple second shot lay-up will leave you with a short iron to the small green. Some subtle breaks on the relatively flat green require a keen eye.

One of the most difficult par 3’s you will encounter anywhere. A long iron or a wood is played to a green fronted by a large, cavernous bunker. The green itself is very difficult, sloping severely from back to front. Putts with ten-foot breaks are not uncommon here. Four is a good score.

Finding the fairway here is very important if you want to get a look at the green. The trees on the left will impede your path if you hang your tee shot in the left rough. The left side is the desired line, however, as the ball will kick off the hill to the right. Big hitters can find the pond on the right with wayward tee shot. A large bunker protects the right front of the green. Out of Bounds runs the entire length of the left side. Club selection is important on the uphill approach to a fairly benign green with subtle breaks.

A medium-length par 4 does not require a driver. Tee shots hit into the right side of the fairway will kick downwards to the right where trees may block your shot to the green. The green is generous in size but not generous in yielding putts as quirky breaks will frustrate even the finest greens-reader.

A classic beauty. Ornamental grasses and a wooded hillside frame the seventh. A pretty straight forward hole, knock it on the green, and you will have a reasonable chance at birdie. If you miss it, miss it short for the least penalizing result.

One of the few holes at Penn Oaks that requires a draw off the tee. Be careful not to over-cook it though, balls in the left trees almost always spell bogey. You can pile up some big numbers if you find the OB or the creek that runs up the left side before crossing the fairway. A severe, tow-tired greenAn uphill hole that plays considerably longer than the stated yardage. Play your second shot into the right hand fairway and watch it kick down to the middle. Shallow bunkers on both sides protect the flat putting surface. Big hitters can get home in tow on occasion. slopes from front to back can mean trouble for balls not kept below the hole.

An uphill hole that plays considerably longer than the stated yardage. A big tee shot just inside the stand of trees that run along the right the stand of trees that run along the right will be perfect. Thick rough and OB await tee shots hit to the left. Play your second shot into the right hand fairway and watch it kick down to the middle. Shallow bunkers on both sides protect the flat putting surface. Big hitters can get home in tow on occasion.

Number 10 is a downright challenging hole. You will need a big tee shot down the right center of the fairway as the ball will shoot left as it hits this sloped fairway. The second shot requires an equally accurate shot with bunkers protecting the left side. Although the green appears to slope from back to front, balls will typically release to the back right of this challenging and deceiving putting surface.

This dogleg right par 4 offers everything you desire for a great golf hole. Beauty, wildlife risk/reward and of course a challenge are all present here. Big hitters will take the ball over the pack of trees to the right and leave themselves with a wedge coming in. for the rest of us, a good drive leaves a short iron in hand to his severely undulated green.

Not a particularly difficult hole. Don’t get caught napping however. Tee shots not hit solidly struck will find the creek that fronts the green .Bunkers to the right and behind the green. Punish wayward tee shots. A couple of mounds on the surface make long putts challenging, but overall a good chance for birdie on this hole.

The smart play here is to leave the driver in the bag and get it in play. A strong well protected dogleg left make getting the tee shot in play your fist concern. You can count on hand the people that have it this green in two! Once in play, two shots down the right hand side of this sloped fairway will leave you a relatively short iron into this mammoth green. Take a five and run off this green.

Here it is! If difficult is what you are after, you got it! A massive drive down the left side of the fairway is required just to get a look at the green if you find the trees, take your lumps, play the “Penn Oaks punch” and hope for five .A mid to long iron or fairway club is needed if you have a chance to get home .Once on the green, the fun has just begun. Balls hit to the center of the green will swing hard left to the back part of the green. This feature of #14 makes keeping it below the hole very difficult. A bogey will feel like a par.

A middle iron over the big bunker on left will usually find this well –sloped green. Beware of pins located in the mind to front sections of the green. Aggressive rolls will almost certainly leave you with a chip for your next shot.

Another hole where keeping the cover on the driver might your best play. Drive it down the left hand side allowing for the bounce to the right an uphill second shot is not difficult, but chooses your club wisely. Weak shots will come back of the false front. Too bold? You may find the rear bunker, or worse. Out of bounds runs along the entire right side of number 16.

A true test of golf awaits you. Go ahead at let the big dog eat here; beware of the OB on the right. The second shot plays downhill more than you think, be careful not to take to much club. This green appears to be sloped from back to front form the fairway; however it actually falls away from the player. Several ridges and humps make this postage stamp sized green one of the most difficult on the course. Free advice- hit it short, chips on, makes 4 and moves on.

Pines that run along the right hand side have gobbled up many a ball and skewed that outcome of countless matches. Play a shot down the left side of the fairway; be careful of the out of bounds. Keep it below the hole here at all costs. Number 18’s large green is a blessing and a curse. Yes you can hit in two, but you may hit 3 putts before you find the bottom of the cup. Two-putts on this green may be all you need to win the hole.
